The office building Budova B won first place in the 2021 Green Roof of the Year awards, specifically in the category of Public Intensive Green Roof. The owner and manager of building Budova B is the PASSERINVEST Concern.
The eighth annual country-wide Green Roof of the Year awards chose from 16 buildings of various sizes, serving different purposes. Building Budova B won first place in the category of Public Intensive Green Roof. The awards ceremony took place on 25 June in the Open Garden of the Partnership Foundation. Building Budova B primarily earned the award thanks to the completely renovated rooftop terrace with an area of 1000 m2, where employees can enjoy the raised flower beds and other original flower arrangements while sitting under a pergola. Thus, the terrace serves as the perfect place to relax during the workday or, for instance, for informal meetings under the open sky.
Building Budova B underwent complete reconstruction in 2019-2020 and its surroundings were also revitalised. The building received a new façade in earthy tones, all the technology was modernised, which is an advantage both from an ecological and economic operations, and the tenants were given an effective and healthy working environment. In addition to the expansive rooftop terrace, the adjacent public space was also improved. A new square, Náměstí Ellen G. Whiteové, was created here, with mature trees planted, seating and a water feature. A new green atrium is also available with the same attributes on the other side of the building, offering pleasant natural shade in the hot summer months.
“Not only did the reconstruction put the building back into category A, which brought it several interesting new tenants, but it was also performed entirely in accordance with our strategy of a responsible urban developer. The cultivation, development and long-term ecological and civil sustainability of the localities in which we operated are just as important to us as the construction of the buildings themselves. We are very pleased with the award, all the more so because it shows that a quality rooftop terrace can also be built on older buildings that are reconstructed,” stated Martin Unger, the Technical Director of Passerinvest Group.
